Driving
Electric cars are highly efficient vehicles. As a result, external conditions such as temperature, headwind, rain, topography and especially aerodynamics have a much more noticeable effect on them than we are used to with fairly inefficient combustion engines.
Speed
In concrete terms, this means that you will feel a very clear difference whether you are traveling at 90 or 120 km/h. Or whether the road is wet or not. Of course, there’s nothing you can do about the weather, but in line with our philosophy of“slow travel“, i.e. conscious and sustainable travel, we recommend traveling at a speed of around 100 km/h on the freeway. This means you can go much further on one battery charge than if you were to use the maximum speed.
Riding comfort
Basically, an electric car drives no differently than a combustion engine. It just is more comfortable in some places: for example, there is no sound from the engine. (Okay, maybe it hums a little, but you won’t hear any diesel noises!)
Furthermore, there are no gears and no clutch pedal. Almost all electric cars have a fixed gear ratio and the electric motor simply turns faster and faster from a standstill until a defined top speed is reached. For you, this means driving like with an automatic. (You won’t want to be without it any more, especially in city traffic or traffic jams).
Relaxed driving
Our experience shows that your head plays the main role in the question of whether you are relaxed or tense on the road. We therefore advise you to aim for shorter sections and sensible daily goals.
Not that you couldn’t drive 750 kilometers in one day with the LIGHTstern Polaris, but the question is whether you really want to do that …
