Frequently asked
Questions
Whether you’re an old hand at camping or a beginner, there are a few questions we get asked time and time again. You can find the answers here!
Transparent prices
We have three prizes. One for the low season and one for the high season. You can find the current prices here.
The seasons are:
High season: June-September, Christmas/New Year
Low season: October, April, May
Winter season: November-March
The deposit is EUR 1,000.
Costs for the repair of damage to the vehicle or equipment caused by you will be deducted from the deposit. If several claims have occurred and excesses of more than EUR 1,000 may be incurred, we will invoice you for the difference after your return.
The costs for charging electricity will also be deducted from the deposit if you wish to use our charging cards.
The amount of the deposit is always EUR 1,000, even if you have taken out motorhome travel insurance to reduce the excess.
Your deposit will be transferred to your account when you return the vehicle.
5 % from 9 nights
10 % from 16 nights
15 % from 23 nights
Yes! We offer very special, attractive discounts for long trips of two months or more. You can find all the information here!
We don’t like complex pricing structures that usually have the sole purpose of attracting you with low daily prices and then taking extra money out of your pocket for everything.
That’s why at LIGHTstern you only pay one rental price per night plus the flat rate for the final cleaning of EUR 120. You complete the vehicle instruction online via the LIGHTstern Academy. There are no additional costs for this.
Equipment such as camping furniture, crockery, bed linen, charging equipment and “household goods” are included in the rental price. Just bring your clothes and food and you’re ready to go!
Although we are in favor of a mindful, sustainable and rather slow way of traveling we do not have a kilometer limit.
Of course, charging takes longer than refueling with diesel, but it is still possible to cover 600 kilometers or more in one day without any problems.
You should be able to drive as far as you feel comfortable and not constantly have to remember that you may have exceeded the inclusive kilometers.
As a renter and main driver, you must have held a valid class B driver’s license for at least two years.
If you are renting with a second person and both persons have held a driving license for at least two years, both renters may also drive the vehicle.
We will be happy to issue you with a gift voucher for a certain amount or for a certain number of nights (high or low season). Just write us a message with your individual wishes!
Questions about the vehicle
However, we recommend a cruising speed of approx. 100 km/h on the highway (see “How much electricity does the vehicle consume? How far can I get with it?”).
Depending on the driving profile, even longer distances can be covered in urban areas or across country without recharging.
(Longer distances are of course also possible, but then you will spend most of the day on the road).
Thanks to a charging capacity of up to 115 kW, the LIGHTstern Polaris recharges to 80 % in around 40 minutes at the fast charger.
At a normal charging station, such as those found in parking lots or in cities, the LIGHTstern Polaris charges at 11 kW and would therefore take around 7 hours to fully charge despite its large battery.
On campsites, it is increasingly possible to charge with 10 or 16 A at the pitch. Thanks to the mobile universal charger of the LIGHTstern Polaris, which can cope with almost all power sources, the battery can be charged overnight (12 hours) by around 33 % (at 10 A) and by around 50 % (at 16 A). If a high-voltage connection is available, even the full 11 kW is possible and you can fully charge in a maximum of 7 hours, just like at a public charging station.
* These scenarios do not occur in practice. Please take a look at the detailed page on the topic “loading“.
No. All LIGHTstern electric campers have a charging card on board. So you don’t have to bother to get one, you can simply set off.
The electricity purchased via this card is conveniently offset against the deposit after your trip.
However, if you want to secure the best price, you should set up an account with a charging electricity provider yourself. For longer trips, it may be cheaper to choose a tariff with a basic fee and lower electricity prices.
We will be happy to help you choose the right provider!
We also recommend installing the Tesla app on your cell phone for most travel countries. In combination with a basic fee, you can enjoy the same prices as Tesla drivers and use the well-developed Supercharger network. The contract can be terminated monthly.
The cushions are equipped with our clever reversible covers.
These have a robust day side with a fabric made from recycled marine plastic and a comfortable night side with a cotton canvas fabric.
The covers are machine washed before each rental and are therefore always hygienically clean when you pick up the vehicle.
Good news!
We are now once again offering a bike rack for the rear door of the LIGHTstern Polaris.
This can carry two bicycles (or light eBikes) up to a total of 50 kg.
You can select the porter for a flat rate of EUR 45 per rental directly in the booking form.
Out of consideration for customers who are allergic to animal hair and also due to increased wear and tear on the vehicle, pets are not allowed to travel with you.
In principle, there is nothing to stop you from driving onto a festival site.
However, as festivals regularly sink into the mud and electric vehicles can be severely damaged if they are not towed away properly, we reserve the right to reject them on a case-by-case basis.
In any case, be aware that damage to your vehicle caused by getting stuck in the mud on a festival site may be classified as gross negligence by the insurance company and may therefore not be paid for.
In such a case, you are fully personally liable.
Please talk to us about your plans before renting, and we will clarify this individually.
For some countries you have to buy a vignette and stick it in the windshield. In other countries the license plate is scanned, in others you need a small box that is read by the corresponding gantries.
As your camper “belongs to you” for the rental period, you must ensure that you comply with the legal requirements of your destination country.
If you are new to the subject, we will be happy to advise you.
In principle, this is entirely possible.
We do not consider the usual business model of buying “white goods” motorhomes from the major manufacturers at a massive discount and selling them off again after one season to be sustainable. That’s why we usually keep our vehicles in the rental fleet for several years, after which they are sold.
In principle, however, we can have a chat about a build-out to order.
Flat rate for final cleaning, arrival, handover
We thought long and hard about whether we should implement a price model without a flat cleaning fee. However, we found it unfair to customers who rent for a longer period of time to add the cost per rental to the price per night. Even long-term guests only incur this expense only, just like someone who only drives for a long weekend.
The cleaning fee is EUR 120. It is charged once per rental.
Your advantage is that the longer you rent, the less the fee will be.
Our credo at LIGHTstern is that we want to offer you the best possible travel experience. Cleaning at the end of your journey is certainly not one of them.
That’s why we take care of this for you as part of the cleaning flat rate. You only have to return the vehicle “swept clean”.
As we want to give you a clean, fully charged and well-prepared vehicle, we have refrained from taking vehicles back and sending them on their way again on the same day. Accordingly, the changeover days are always fully booked.
For this reason, handover and return times are largely a matter of negotiation. However, vehicles can usually be picked up from 11 am and should be returned by 2 pm.
We hand over the vehicle spotless. Even if we take care of the final cleaning for you as part of the flat rate, we would ask you to return the vehicle swept clean. Hand brush and dustpan are on board.
The price of the package does not include emptying the toilet and waste water tank. Please do this yourself. Otherwise we will charge a fee of EUR 50.
No. You will receive the vehicle with a charge level of at least 90%. When returning, we only ask that the battery is not discharged to less than 10 %.
The most sustainable way to travel to us is certainly by train. Stadthagen train station is only ten minutes away from us.
We will be happy to pick you up from the station for a small fee of EUR 30 and of course bring you back when you return.
Of course you can also come to us with your own vehicle. There are always plenty of free public parking spaces along our quiet residential street.
If you come with an electric car and leave us the key, we will charge the battery shortly before your return. So you can relax on your journey home!
Insurance, cover letter, accident etc.
Our vehicles are fully insured. The deductible is EUR 1,500. You can reduce this to EUR 250 by taking out additional insurance (see below).
You will also receive a breakdown cover letter.
To reduce the amount of the excess to EUR 250, you can take out additional insurance through our insurance partner ERGO. It also covers damage to equipment, the interior and even your luggage.
You can conveniently book your desired insurance cover directly with us.
In addition to the recommended motorhome travel insurance, our partner ERGO also offers travel cancellation insurance.
You can conveniently book your desired insurance cover directly with us.
If you break down for any reason, please follow the instructions on the map for roadside assistance cardwhich you will find in the glove compartment.
If you are involved in an accident be sure to call the police, as it is a rental vehicle and the insurance company will want to see an official report.
Please also let us know that something has happened as soon as the acute problems have been solved.
We stick to the good old polluter pays principle! ;-)
If you received a speeding ticket, please let us know when you return. Even if we only receive the claim from abroad after you have received your deposit back, you have committed with the rental agreement to pay for claims of this kind that you have caused yourself.
We charge an additional EUR 15.00 for the work involved in processing the ticket with the authorities.
Remote Work Camper
As a remote-friendly company, we adapt to your needs as much as possible.
However, there are basically three options:
1: Individual booking – Here you will find the usual conditions as for vacation trips apply.
2: Longer booking – The camper is booked for a longer period (from 2 months) – e.g. for a more extensive project.
Your employees can also take turns here.
The conditions here correspond to our Long-term rental with up to 40% discount.
3: “Nights budget” – You can book a camper in advance for a certain number of nights per season.
Here, too, the various discount levels of the normal rental or the long-term rental apply, depending on the volume involved.
You can then use the “nights budget” for any period of two nights or more.
However, a flat rate for final cleaning will then be charged for each individual booking.
Feel free to get in touch and let’s discuss which option suits you best!
As a remote worker or digital nomad, you benefit from the same convenient booking platform that is also available to our leisure customers.
Thanks to the user-friendly overview, you can easily check the check the availability of our electric campers and choose the perfect period for you.
If you book the Remote Work module for a LIGHTstern camper*, you will also receive a 32-inch smart monitor, additional 230 V sockets for all your devices and an LTE router (for your own SIM card) in addition to the full equipment for vacation trips. If you wish, you can also take a Starlink Mini antenna with you.
In combination with the spacious table, you have everything you need to work productively on the move.
*currently only available for the Polaris 1
To be able to use the module in the camper, you pay a one-off fee of EUR 150, regardless of the duration of your trip. There are also costs for Internet access.
With Starlink you get unlimited data volume worldwide for EUR 72* per month or part thereof.
Alternatively, you can book 50 GB for EUR 40*.
The billing period is independent of the calendar month and relates to your travel dates.
*Prices may change at any time. Please check with the provider before booking!
Unfortunately, the planned solution with Holafly on a “physical eSIM” does not work reliably.
That’s why we provide you with the LTE router free of charge when you book the Remote Work module, but you have to take care of a suitable SIM card for your destination yourself. You can then insert this card into the router and have convenient mobile internet for all your devices.
Alternatively or additionally, you can take the Starlink antenna with you. (See “What does Internet access via Starlink cost?”)
In fact, you can currently use Starlink worldwide. However, each individual trip must not be longer than two months outside the country of booking (=Germany). If the Starlink antenna is abroad for longer, Starlink will stop working until you have been active in Germany again for a short time.
Unfortunately, this restriction currently applies to all Starlink tariffs, with the exception of the prohibitively expensive Priority option, which is unlikely to be an option for most of you.
So if you are planning a very long trip, let’s discuss together how best to realize the topic “Internet”.
As an electric camper, the LIGHTstern Polaris has the unbeatable advantage of being able to access the huge drive battery directly.
(A diesel requires heavy and expensive batteries, a separate inverter and a solar system on the roof).
The LIGHTstern campers already use electricity (induction) for cooking and heating (electric parking heater).
When you book the Remote Work module*, you get additional sockets installed in the wall unit of the table. This means you can connect all your 230 V devices** directly to the power supply at the desk.
*Currently only available for the Polaris 1
**The system can be loaded with a maximum total power of 2.3 kW.
The monitor of the Remote Work module is a 32-inch LG MyView Smart.
In addition to 4K resolution and signal connections via HDMI and USB-C, it also offers the option of streaming your favorite Netflix or Amazon Prime series or playing content from your smartphone after work via the integrated webOS interface.
(Similar to an AppleTV or Amazon FireTV Stick).
A practical remote control is supplied for this purpose.
The Smart Monitor comes with a USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) cable and a standard HDMI cable that you can use to connect your computer to the screen.
If you need special adapters or more “exotic” cables, please bring them yourself.
No, you don’t have to.
The monitor is perfectly housed in the table’s wall unit.
You simply open the table in the morning, unlock the monitor arm and pull the screen out of the wall.
Then plug your own devices into the socket and activate the internet access via LTE or Starlink.
And you’re ready to go!
(And after work, of course, everything disappears into the wall just as quickly).
We have currently only prepared the Polaris 1 for the module. If demand is high, we will also equip the Polaris 2 with it.
